My old Latin teacher would be quaking in his boots if he realised that I had been mixing up Latin with Occitane. Perhaps it’s a fine line linguistically which could be discussed over a glass of wine or two.
Dius à Vol is an Occitane phrase, (God willed) used by wine-growers to announce the end of the harvest and agricultural year. Back in the olden days, the winemakers organised a party and a dinner to thank the harvesters for their efforts. Nowadays, this tradition has been tweaked to represent an open weekend at wine domaines where the winemakers generously share their wine and “nibbles”. A convivial affair!
So if you are local and fancy joining in, ROQUE Sestière in Luc sur Orbieu is the place to be this weekend. And what’s more, you will also have the opportunity to see some of our wine barrel art furniture!
So Dius à Vol, see you there!
Way back in 2003 I started working with gemstones. Initially I was drawn to the colour of the stones and produced a range of jewellery based on this as opposed to anything else. Fast forward fourteen years and the majority of my gemstone designs are driven by other motives.
So if you had to choose a particular gemstone which would you go for and why? And can you name the stones….?
Imagine my delight to see the beautifully stunning Céleste modelling one of her own clothing designs accompanied by one of my bracelets from the Moonlight collection! Céleste was taking part in a fashion show at Créativa in Rouen.
The Moonlight wraps can be viewed here. Custom orders are welcome.
The last few days have once again been spent increasing my knowledge on gemstones, chakras and essential oils. Yesterday I decided to produce a spreadsheet of the key gemstones I am working with and how together they can produce not only visually stunning pieces of jewellery but also an astonishing amount of support and comfort for those in need. I came to the conclusion that we are all in need – some more than others!
Manon Lily had heard me mention the idea of designing a simple wrap bracelet for children / young people. Of course she wanted one! Many years ago a friend in the village was very anxious about starting collège. She lacked confidence, feared the unknown and in general felt unsure about how she was going to cope with “all that learning”. I suggested she meet Fluorite, a friend of mine.
Fluorite is known as the “Genius Stone”. Without going over technical I felt that this was the perfect gemstone to assist anyone on the path of learning. Here are a few key terms:
- boosts aptitude
- brings about calm
- promoting orderly, sequential thoughts
- encourages concise communication
- inspires gentle honesty
- helps alleviate emotional turmoil and pressure from others
A true genius to say the least!
Whilst I wanted to obviously make a bracelet for Manon Lily I felt that she needed a little extra something and added rose quartz to the recipe. Known as the stone of “unconditional love” it is also a great comfort for those afraid of the dark, and has wonderful calming and reassuring properties. I think the end result speaks for itself.
Obviously Manon Lily is delighted with her new bracelet. As for the friend who was introduced to Fluorite many years ago, she has gone on to have a successful career working with children!
